Period which continued for 264 years from 1603 when Tokugawa Ieyasu was commissioned to Seii-Taishogun and placed his government in Edo (the present Tokyo) to 1867 when Tokugawa Yoshinobu returned his sovereignty to the Emperor. Many developments in painting characterize this period.
