Gunjo

A dark blue pigment made from azurite, a mineral which is found in copper ore deposits. gunjo.jpgIn ancient times it was called kon-jo (golden or mineral blue) or kon-jo (lapis lazuli blue), and during the mid-Edo period it came to be called gun-jo (dark blue). Because it has only been produced in small quantities, it has always been expensive.
