A sort of qualification bestowed on the cultural properties as in case of the national treasures. According to the present Law for Protection of Cultural Properties (Juyo-bunkazai) they are considered especially important tangible cultural properties. Articles earlier designated by the Law for Protection of National Treasures enacted in 1929, which are so-called former national treasures, are regarded as important cultural properties.
