Brief biography
1908 Born in Yokohama
1926 Entered the Japanese painting department of Tokyo Fine Arts School (existing Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music).
1931 Graduated from Japanese painting department of Tokyo Fine Arts School
Studied under Yuki Somei
1933 Finished a graduated course of Tokyo Fine Arts School Visited Europe in August
1934 Selected to the first German-Japanese exchange student and entered Berlin University
1947 Exhibited "Zanshou"(afterglow) at the 3rd Nitten exhibition
1950 Exhibited "Michi"(a way) at the 6th Nitten exhibition
1956 Won the 12th Japan Art Academy Award
1965 Appointed to a member of The Japan Art Academy
Took office as a director of Nitten
1968 Completed "Asaake No Shio"(the tide of dawn) as a big mural of Imperial Palace
1969 Given the Order of Culture, and was selected to Person of Cultural Merits
1976 Given the Grand Cross of Merit by the president of the Federal Republic of Germany
1984 Took office as an advisor of Nitten.
1985 Awarded the Order Pour le Merite which was the supreme order of the arts and sciences of West Germany
1999 Passed away at 90 years old
