Kyujin YAMAMOTO Biography

1900 Japanese painter Kyujin YAMAMOTO was born in Tokyo
1919 Entered Tokyo Fine Arts School (now Tokyo University of the Arts)
1924 Graduated from Tokyo Fine Arts School (now Tokyo University of the Arts)
1928 Awarded his first prize at the 9th Teiten Exhibition
1934 Established the Rusougasha with Yasushi SUGIYAMA and others
1943 Established the Kokudokai with Shoko Kawasaki, Eizo KATO, Kaii HIGASHIYAMA and others
1944 Became assistant professor of Tokyo Fine Arts School (now Tokyo University of the Arts)
1947 Became professor of Private Women's School of Fine Arts (now Joshibi University of Art and Design)
1948 Established the Souzoubijutsu, the association of Japanese painters
1950 Awarded the Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts
1952 Exhibited at the Venice Biennale
1964 Awarded the Japan Art Academy Prize
1977 Given the Order of Culture
Selected to the Person of Cultural Merits
1986 Kyujin Yamamoto passed away at the age of 85
