Biography of Seison MAEDA

1885 - Japanese painter Seison MAEDA was born in Gifu Prefecture.
1901 - Became the pupil of Hanko Kazita.
1902 - Exhibited at the 12th Exhibition of the Japan Painting Association.
1910 - Assumed the role of Secretary of the Group for Attaining a Perfect National Painting.
Completed ceiling paintings in the Hall of the Nanrin-ji Temple.
1914 - Became the Dojin of the Re-established Japan Art Institute.
1918 - First solo exhibition at the Osaka Takashimaya Department Store.
Appointed to the Councilor of the Japan Art Institute.
1922 Took a journey to Europe with
Kokei KOBAYASHI.
1930 - Won the first Asahi Prize.
1935 - Appointed to a member of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts (now The Japan Art Academy).
1937 - Appointed to a member of the Imperial Arts Academy (now The Japan Art Academy).
1944 - Appointed to the Court Artist.
1950 - Became professor of Tokyo University of the Arts.
1955 - Given the Order of Culture.
1959 - Became honorary professor of Tokyo University of the Arts.
1966 - His private museum, Seison Maeda Memorial Hall was opened in Nakatsugawa City.
1977 - Seison MAEDA passed away at the age of 92.
