Biography of Sumio GOTO
1930 - Japanese painter Sumio GOTO was born in Chiba Prefecture.
1946 - Became a pupil of
Kyujin YAMAMOTO.
1949 - Became a pupil of Seihyo Tanaka.
1952 - Awarded his first prize at the 37th Reestablished Inten Exhibition.
1954 - Became the Inyu of the Japan Art Institute.
1962 - Received the Encouragement Prize, Hakuju Award and G Award at the 47th Reestablished Inten Exhibition.
1974 - Became the Dojin of the Japan Art Institute.
1976 - Awarded the Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts at the 61st Reestablished Inten Exhibition.
1986 - Became Emeritus Professor of the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts Education College, China.
Won the Prime Minister Award at the 71st Reestablished Inten Exhibition.
1988 - Completed sliding screen paintings in the Koyasan Tokyo Branch Temple.
Became professor of Tokyo University of the Arts.
1993 - Completed sliding screen paintings in the Hasedera Temple.
1997 - Resigned as professor of Tokyo University of the Arts.
His private museum, GOTO SUMIO MUSEUM of ART was opened.
1999 - Completed sliding screen paintings in the Takahata Fudoson Kongo-ji Temple.
2006 - Awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette.
2016 - Became Emeritus Professor of Tokyo University of the Arts.
Sumio GOTO passed away at the age of 86.
