Biography of Yasushi SUGIYAMA

1909 - Japanese painter Yasushi SUGIYAMA was born in Asakusa, Tokyo.
1928 - Entered the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (Current name Tokyo University of the Arts). Established the Rusougasha with
Kyujin YAMAMOTO and
Tatsuo TAKAYAMA.
1929 - Exhibited at the Teiten Exhibition.
1931 - Graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (Current name Tokyo University of the Arts), and studied under Somei YUKI.
1934 - Chosen as the first exchange student, he studied at Berlin University.
1943 - Travel to Korea, Manchuria and China.
1947 - Won the Special Award at the Nitten Exhibition.
1950 - Took office as the Judge of the Nitten.
1956 - Awarded the Japan Art Academy Prize.
1958 - Took office as the councilor of the Nitten.
1970 - Appointed to the member of The Japan Art Academy.
1974 - Selected to the Person of Cultural Merits and given the Order of Culture. Took office as the board chairman of the Nitten.
1977 - Took office as the councilor of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
1993 - Yasushi SUGIYAMA passed away.
