Ai-e, Blue print
A type of ukiyo-e print made at the end of the Edo period, in blue monochrome or with blue as the keynote, without other bright colors. This type of print was produced as a result of the luxury prohibition decree. Also termed beni-girai (avoidance of red because hues of red were especially avoided.
