Art nouveau, New art
An artistic style which first appeared in France and Belgium around 1890 and remained popular through 1905. Most evident in crafts and architecture, this new artistic style broke off from tradition to make full use of flowing lines and curves inspired by plant forms. Asai Chu and others produced art nouveau work upon their return from the International Exhibition held in Paris in 1900.
