Daiku, Carpenter
Under a bureaucracy called Ritsuryo it meant the highest position of architectural experts. It did not necessarily mean only a carpenter. In the Pre-modern Age it meant both the chief of architectural construction work and an artisan (a master carpenter) in the common class. At present, only experts engaged in constructing wooden buildings are called by this name.
