Etching
A technique for copper plate print. A copper plate is coated with a kind of wax and the surface is engraved with a needle to make concave scratches (intaglio). These are then eroded with nitric acid, then the plate is inked and an impression from it taken on a press machine. In Japan, Shiba Kokan first attempted this kind of printing process in 1783.
