Gaiko-ha, Pleinairist
A school of painting which preferred painting outdoors in search of bright colors. The French Impressionists (Insho-ha) of the 19th century can be considered to be the height of this school. This style of painting came to Japan in the Meiji 20's through Kuroda Seiki and others who were taught under Raphael Collin and it spread broadly. It has also become the main stream of Kan-ten.
