Biography of Hoshun YAMAGUCHI

1893 - Japanese painter Hoshun YAMAGUCHI was born in Hokkaido.
1914 - Entered Tokyo School of Fine Arts (present Tokyo University of Arts).
1916 - Awarded his first prize at the 3rd Nika Exhibition.
1918 - Became a pupil of Eikyu Matsuoka.
1924 - Entered the Newly-established Yamatoe Group founded in 1921 by Eikyu Matsuoka. Awarded his first prize at the 5th Teiten Exhibition.
1926 - Won the Special Award at the 7th Teiten Exhibition.
1927 - Won the Special Award at the 8th Teiten Exhibition.
1929 - Became a professor of the Department of Japanese-style painting of Imperial Art School (now Musashino Art University).
1930 - Established "Rikucho-kai", a group of Japanese painting with
Heihachiro FUKUDA, Gakuryo Nakamura and others.
1950 - Appointed to the member of The Japan Art Academy.
1954 - Took office as the Director of the Nitten.
1965 - Given the Order of Culture.
1968 - Completed a painting on the wall of the new Imperial Palace.
1971 - Hoshun YAMAGUCHI passed away at the age of 77.
