Biography of Kiyoshi SAITO

Portrait of Kiyoshi SAITO1907 - Japanese print maker Kiyoshi SAITO was born in Fukushima Prefecture.
1931 - Came to Tokyo and started studying oil painting by himself.
1932 - Awarded his first prize at the 9th Hakujitsukaiten Exhibition.
1936 - Created woodcut print for the first time after being inspired by Sotaro Yasui. Awarded at the 5th exhibition of the Japan Print Association.
1940 - Produced the first work of "Winter in Aizu" series.
1949 - Recommended and became a member of Kokugakai.
1957 - Awarded at the 2nd Ljubljana Internafional Biennale.
1981 - Received the fourth class of the Order of the Sacred Treasure.
1995 - Designated a Person of Cultural Merit.
1997 - His private museum the Kiyoshi Saito Museum of Art was opened. Kiyoshi SAITO passed away at the age of 90.
